Offering Great Outdoor Education Experiences
Camp Stephens school programming offers two great outdoor education experiences for school groups:
At Camp Stephens, students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities (hyperlink to activities) many of which your students may never have experienced before. During their visit to Camp Stephens, students stay in one of our 18 cabins and eat food prepared by our knowledgeable kitchen staff. Our experienced staff facilitates your school’s experience by guiding a cabin group through the various activities and programs offered at Camp Stephens.
Our facility can accommodate multiple groups. During the majority of the rental season more than one school or organization is on site at the same time. Exclusive site use can be granted to groups of 150 persons or more.

Facilities & Food
The YMCA-YWCA Camp Stephens’ Food Services Team prepares appetizing and nutritious meals which are served family-style. We are able to cater for most diets, including vegetarian, lactose intolerant, celiac etc. Please note that we require 2 weeks notice to ensure all dietary needs can be accommodated. Our Dining Hall is a nut-free environment and can hold approximately 230 people. A sample menu is available upon request, but generally, our standard menu consists of healthy and filling camp favourites.
Camp Stephens has 18 camper cabins spread out over the cabin line. Each cabin can accommodate up to 10 kids of one gender and one of our YMCA-YWCA leaders. Cabins are equipped with only basic electricity, so kids are encouraged not to bring any electronic devices. All cabins have a separate centrally located washroom and shower facility.
Teachers/Adult Supervisors are offered the opportunity to stay in teacher cabins separate from students and are provided their own cabin at a ratio of 1 supervisor for every 15 kids.
Built in 1981 by our own staff, Lount Lodge is an inspiring place to be. This building houses our main offices and a large open area for campfires, indoor games, and quiet reflection.
Bonnycastle Wellness Centre
Based in the Wellness Centre, Camp Stephens’ Wellness Coordinator is in charge of the care and well-being of all guests. The Wellness Centre has an accessible washroom, and two additional rooms for sick patients. The Wellness Coordinator ensures that all medication is stored securely and dispensed at the appropriate time and in the proper dosage. Please note: All medication must be in its original container clearly marked with the child’s name, contents, dosage. The hospital in Kenora is approximately a 15 minute boat ride from Camp Stephens. In the case of emergency, one representative from both Camp Stephens and the school will accompany any student to the hospital in Kenora.
Showers & Washrooms
Showers and washrooms are located separately a short distance away from our cabins. Showers are separated by gender and have an open concept.
While on a canoe trip with Camp Stephens, your group will stay in either 4 or 6 man A-frame tents from Eureka. Tents are assigned based on gender.
